A Message from Frank Wehr, Chief Operating Officer for Artis Senior Living
May 1, 2021
It has been over one year from the beginning of a pandemic that caused the world to stop and make immediate changes for the safety of ourselves and our loved ones. It has undoubtedly been one of the most challenging years for many of us, presenting many difficult situations and decisions to be made.
One of the first, and easiest decisions we made was to form the Artis Safety Council in partnership with experts at Johns Hopkins medicine who have, and continue to, keep us informed of the most up to date COVID information and research. The council also provides recommendations to our protocols, always with the safety of our residents and associates in mind.
In December, with the guidance of the Safety Council, we began hosting COVID vaccines clinics. Each community completed three clinics to provide the most opportunities for residents and associates to be vaccinated. We are thrilled to share that 96% of our residents have received the vaccine (that’s 30% higher than current US Population 65+), and 54% of associates (20% higher than current US population 18+). We continue to encourage our associates, through the TLC, Together Lessening COVID campaign, to do their part and become vaccinated. To support this, we are actively working with pharmacies to continue to offer vaccination opportunities for our residents and associates and hope to be able to host clinics for our Artis families and the greater community soon.
While safety continues to be our priority, thanks to the increased vaccination rates, I am happy to say we have been able to begin changing our COVID protocols in ways that benefit both our current and prospective residents. Some of those changes include:
- Welcoming loved ones for both indoor and outdoor visits. (guidelines and availability are determined by each community in conjunction with state health departments)
- Offering in-person tours and have updated move-in protocols, allowing us to get new families the help they have needed for so long.
- With recent changes passed down from the CDC, changes involving in-suite visits, as well as dining and life enrichment are on the horizon.
While we remain cautious, we are thrilled to see the light ahead of us. We value the Positive Partnerships we share with our residents and their families, our associates, medical professionals, community partners, and so many more. As a team, we have faced the challenges of this pandemic and look toward a better and brighter future. Together we stand strong, together we move forward. Positive Partners, Moving Forward Together! That’s The Artis Way!
